The tooth on the left here has an old post crown that has started to decay and come loose. This lady did not want a denture and the tooth next to it was not really strong enough to make a long lasting bridge, so a dental implant was chosen. The broken crown and the decayed tooth were removed and a temporary appliance fitted. Six week later the implant was placed and left to heal for another 6 to 8 weeks. At this stage impressions were taken for the final crown. The picture below shows the final crown on a dental implant. Dental implant treatment often can take 3 or 4 months or longer in some cases where bone growing procedures are required, but as they are such long lasting restorations they are almost always the first choice for most healthy patients.
