What’s sleeping like?
It might seem strange having a piece of plastic in your mouth at first, but you’ll quickly get used to the sensation. Most patients forget they’re even wearing these clever clear braces. You can also have short breaks from your Invisalign – as long as you get between 20-22 hours’ wear per day.
What’s talking like?
Most patients don’t find they have any problems with speaking at all – and the treatment can work to correct existing speech problems (such as those caused by poor bite). Once you grow accustomed to the feeling of the aligners, you probably won’t notice them when speaking after a while.
What’s cleaning like?
It couldn’t be easier.
- Clean your teeth as normal, without wearing your Invisalign.
- Rinse your Invisalign whenever you remove it, and store it in its case.
- Soak your aligners in Invisalign’s cleaning crystals or denture cleaner every couple of days.
- Use a soft toothbrush if you want to ‘go over’ the aligners.
- Don’t use toothpaste or harsh chemicals to clean or soak your Invisalign.
What’s sports like?
You might need to remove your aligners when playing contact sports, like rugby, and wear a mouth guard to protect your smile.
What’s aftercare like?
You’ll likely need retainers to keep your smile looking straight for the future. Your private dentist will talk you through how to wear and when to wear these.
