What are dental implants?
Dental implants can be considered as artificial
tooth roots, they are small titanium fixtures
which are gently fixed, permanently to the jaw bone.
The implants form a bony bond and act as an the
foundations to which replacement teeth can be fixed.
When can they be used?
Implants can be used for a wide range of
treatment from one implant to replace one missing tooth,
two implants to secure a loose denture, through to multiple
implants to replace all the teeth in the mouth.
What Implants do you use?
The implants used at the practice
are those of ITI
Straumann backed by over 20 years of research and
development. Colin Sutton is an accredited ITI
Straumann user and has been placing and restoring dental
implants at this practice since 1999. He trained
at the Trafford Park Hospital with one of Manchester's
most experienced implantologists, Cemal Ucer.
Colin has undertaken extensive further training in restorative
dentistry with specialist prosthodontist Mr Paul Tipton.
He is a member of the Association of Dental Implantology
and an active member of the areas implantology study
club. For an information pack on dental implants

What
are the benefits?
Dental implants have many advantages
and these depend on your situation. When teeth
are lost the bone that held them in your jaw will shrink.
Placement of dental Implants can preserve this
bone so maintaining the shape and structure of the lips
and cheeks preventing the caved in look of older people
with dentures. They can be used as an alternative
to bridges where surrounding healthy teeth would otherwise
have to be drilled down. For patients with dentures
implants provide you with better function, comfort and
confidence. No longer should you have to struggle
with loose dentures, or limit the types of food you
choose to eat. Implants can be placed at the
time teeth are lost or many years later.
Where can I find more case studies?
If you would like to see more pictures
of different cases then the ITI site shows some excellent
treatment examples. However be warned the pictures on
this site are quite explicit. Click here
to visit this site and follow link to case collection.
Would I be suitable?
Implants provide a very flexible way
of treating missing teeth and so can be used in many
situations. However their suitability for any
given situation must be assessed on an individual basis.
At your implant assessment consultation, your mouth
would first be examined and then appropriate x rays,
models and photographs taken. If implants are
appropriate a full treatment plan would be developed
together with an estimate of the costs of providing
the treatment. For those who would like to find
out more about dental implants we can arrange a free
no obligation consultation with our Dental Implant Adviser
Paula Parkes
Cost and Payment
Your investment in dental implant treatment
depends on the number of implants and the complexity
of treatment. After a full examination and completion
of any special tests such as X Rays a detailed estimate
will be provided. We are also able to arrange financial
packages so that payments can be spread over a number
months or years. Although the cost of dental implant
treatment is high the benefits to patients are great
and this makes it worthwhile. In the long term
dental implants will often prove to be the more cost
effective solution to replace missing teeth.
Why Dr Sutton and the Dental Heath Centre?
Dr Sutton has been providing successful
total implant treatments since 2000, from single crowns
to full bridges or dentures. He provides the complete
treatment from assessment, placement of the implant
to completion of your crown, bridge or denture. This
we believe eliminates the confusion that can arise between
a surgeon placing the implant and another dentist trying
to restoring them. There are occasional exceptions in
which case you would be advised.
