Types of braces

Invisible braces

Clearstep Ambassador, one of only 20 in the country!

Clearstep is one of the most invisible ways to straighten your teeth. An impression is taken of your mouth and a series of almost invisible clear braces are made to fit your mouth four weeks later. These appliances are great for adults and children and are ideal for those who are determined to have straight teeth but don't want to wear fixed braces. Treatment times depend upon the problem and can be as little as six months for a simple case, to two years or more for complex cases.

Lingual braces
Lingual braces are fitted to the back of the teeth and are ideal for the rapid correction of crooked front teeth. They are invisible from the front and work extremely quickly with cases completing in three to six months. Patients love the speed of the treatment.

Fixed braces
Fixed braces or train tracks are attached to the front of your teeth. They consist of little metal or tooth-coloured (porcelain) squares stuck to the teeth, with a thin metal wire joining them together. They can only be removed by your dentist.

Removable Braces
Removable braces are made from a print taken of your mouth. A dental technician makes the brace and it can be fitted to your mouth two weeks later. They can be removed for cleaning and are very useful for certain types of tooth movement.

Functional braces are similar to removable braces in that they are made from a print of your teeth. Unlike removable braces they not only move teeth but also encourage favourable jaw growth, often to the point that dental extractions are not needed. The braces can appear quite bulky at first and require a keen, co-operative patient for best results.

Retainers
Retainers are provided at the end of your orthodontic treatment to ensure that your new straight smile stays this way. Retainers can be made so that they are removable or glued invisibly to the back of your front teeth.

Head gear
Head gear can be added to any of the above braces to help move the teeth more efficiently. It is usual to wear the head gear when you are at home and overnight when you are sleeping.

Our investment in the very latest technology makes us a popular choice with discerning patients and referring dentists alike. We are one of only a few practices in the area to use a dental microscope that magnifies teeth up to 15 times, allowing us to diagnose problems earlier and achieve pinpoint accuracy during treatments. We welcome referrals for endodontics, orthodontics and dental implants.
